How "Place" Shapes Our Way of Thinking

                                                              The Place I Grew Up

My place isn't in the crowded city, or near a beach or even near a village. My home is in the country.I live on farmland. My Grandfather bought this land before I was even born. Then when when my Dad got married to my mom he sold them land for one Dollar? My parents later build a house on this land.We still live here today and this is were I have grown up.I love where we live it is so peaceful and calm. The night time is my favorite time. You can always see the stars in the night sky.  Now thats something you don't see in city. I love how when in the summer everything is green and if you look out across the field, sometimes it might catch your eye because it looks blue. This reminds me why they call Kentucky the Bluegrass state. I love the sound of the crickets in the evening just before night fall and in the early morning you can open up your windows and hear the birds singing I enjoy our huge garden every year It is a lot of work , but man it is good eaten..I love the blue sky and no tall skyscrapers. I love the Fall because the trees paint a colorful picture all around us.The leaves begin to fall and me and my sister use to love to build a mountain of leaves and jump in them.I love the winter because all the leaves have fallen off the tress and now they are bare and you can see through the woods ,then the snow comes and it is beautiful. The only foot prints is ours.We love to go outside and build a snowman. oh and we have awesome hills in the back field for riding a our sleds. My grandfather and father recently bought all the land around us.The purpose was so that no one else can ever build close to us.We don't want the expansion of the city or people around us to move in.We like that we have privacy and peace. So you see I live in what I call God country and I don't ever want to leave.

  1. Austin, that was a really beautiful entry. It is well written and heartfelt. I love the opening. I was also really interested because I could relate; I also grew up in a house my parents built before I was born on land from my father's family out in the country! I live in the city now and miss being able to see all the stars and have the feeling of expansiveness and privacy. Enjoy it and let it inspire you!
