If
I lived in the 1600’s I would choose to live the life of a nobleman in the courts
because even though he kept a close eye on his noble men and the duties of a
nobleman was at times harsh. The King did lavish them around him with his
lifestyle. I would love to work for Louis XIV because the Palace of Versailles
was the most powerful Kingdom in Europe. I’m sure every day was filled with
amusement and much entertainment. Louis XIV loved to dance and would dazzle his
noblemen with musical theater and opera. In the courts the play’s that were demonstrated
where no doubt very dramatic and pure genius. Even though Louis XIV would use his
scripts to point out how feeble the noble men where it was still a privilege to
be present with such talent. The King’s would boast about their power in their scripts
and In “The Sun King” Louis XIV performs and tells the noblemen if they do not
respect him “They will soon feel his heat”. I would almost say this was the way
a King would brainwash his noblemen to honor, serve and counsel him.
In the courts some of the other King’s like Moliere
would entertain the noblemen with comedies and Lully would compose the music or
ballet. This would be great for past time. Even though the King’s would have complete
control over me I would in some ways respect them not only because it was my
duty, but because they indeed possessed a gift of talents. So if I had to
choose to be a nobleman in this day I would gladly take my place as a nobleman
in the court of Louis XIV.

Another nice post, Austin. Lots of good observations. Some people prefer the freedom of not being watched and judged so carefully, but there are limits to your freedom in a kingdom even if you are far from the palace, especially if you are struggling to eat and survive. The luxury and excitement of the Versailles lifestyle would be difficult to turn down!
