Assignment 4 - Discovery Blog: Most Significant Discovery in Realism and Impressionism

                       Post-Impressionism
My favorite discovery in this unit was the Post –Impressionism. I like how they didn’t reject the light filled canvases of Impressionism. I think they had good taste. I like how they also wanted a more personal approach to painting. I also like how in the Post Impressionists added unnatural colors and choppy brush strokes just like in one of my favorite prints from the 1890 the Vincent Van Gogh, “Country Road in Province” I really liked how in this unit I could see the differences in all art and how each artist has his or her own style. No, art is ever the same, but what I learned was that I could detect, just by looking at an artist work, which piece belongs to the same artist. The style of an artist will be unique and different in its own right.

Another one of my favorite prints from Van was “Starry Night” I can compare it to the other canvas” Country Road in Province” I can see the similarities in the artist work. I have learned so much in Arts and Cultures this year. I have learned that all artist where inspired or influenced in their own way. Post- Impressionist artist wanted to betray emotion and intellect as well as the visual imagery. I think this was my favorite unit because I agree with the techniques of Post Impressionist. I love Vincent Van Gogh work and his vivid colors and emotional impact in the art world; no doubt he will inspire others.

  1. Austin, this is great. I love Van Gogh, too, and he is a perfect example to describe how you can start to identify an artist by his or her unique style even seeing a particular painting for the first time. You do a really nice job explaining what the Post-Impressionists were about and why you are drawn to them. Excellent entry.

  2. I like how you used examples well and especially that you used Van Gogh. Your entry is personal and gives good picture of what you wanted to portray. It's a really good post
