“Animals are my friend...and I don't eat my friends.”
― George Bernard Shaw
― George Bernard Shaw
I definitely agree with this quote. I also found it quite humorous.
I have a pet’s of my own and they are considered one of my true friends. I
could never imagine eating my dogs. HOWEVER, I really think that George is
using this quote as a metaphor towards a person. Maybe he is referring to a
person that has betrayed him in some fashion and he is referring to them as an animal
or a beast. Some type of animal that will prey on his friendship. Then we he
say’s I don’t eat my friends. George is implying that he doesn’t betray his
friends. I still think this sentiment is true today and I have heard it used in
other phrases. I think Shaw’s humor is a reflection of his mindset and I think
he had his own way of thinking and coping with everyday life. I looked over a
bunch of his quotes. Maybe his quotes were therapeutic thing for Shaw. Of
course he had to have a since of humor. He defiantly left behind a hand full of
quotes with sentiments that apply today and always.

That is a really interesting take! I like how you carry out the metaphor with human friends, and I agree that a lot of his quotes are very funny and very relevant today. The quote about not eating animal friends is one of his many famous quotes about being a vegetarian! He is saying a reason he doesn't eat animals is because he considers animals to be friends. One of his others is "A vegetarian is a person who won't eat anything that can have children," and there is even a George Bernard Shaw vegetarian cookbook names for him. He was a very interesting person! I hope you enjoyed learning some about him.
