Assignment 5 - Blog: Dance of My Choice

The American Social dance that most appeals to me is the twist. This dance was inspired by Rock –N-Roll and was the first worldwide dance craze in the 1960’s. The young people really grew to this type of dance and there was a big controversy over it. Some people thought that this dance was too provocative.

I chose this dance because; come on it is the twist. Who doesn’t like the twist and everyone can do the twist. Just shake it…… The original inspiration came from the African American plantation and they called the dance “wringin” and “twistin” The dancing goes back to the nineteenth century. The original aesthetic origin, such as the use of pelvic movement and the shuffling foot movement twist was also known for is traced all the way back to West Africa.

There are so many different songs that were on the Twist hits on Billboard. Here is a couple just to name a few. “The Twist”,” “Peppermint Twist”, “Twist and Shout”, and “Do You Know How To Do The Twist?”

The twist was a very social dance that people still very much like today for many occasions like weddings and proms. The twist was very popular in the 1960’s.Just think about that. This dance is so inspirational that it is still around today and is still just as popular today as it was in the 60’s. The TWIST is one of my favorite.
