While
reading over the Art Toolkit site I was looking over the different artistic professionals’
chose Bruce Simpson an artistic director. It was pretty interesting to know he
was born and studied in Scottish Ballet in Glasgow, Scotland and moved all over
different parts of the world, but ended up in Louisville, KY. I love how most teachers in dance have experience
in their own lives the love of dance. They didn’t just go to College and study
dance, they have a passion for the art themselves and I think this would make
for a very good teacher.
I
didn’t think about the job demand. I was reading about the hours and sweat that
goes into dance. You would have to be dedicated. I’m sure all the hard work
would pay off when you could see a group of ballet dancers perform their hearts
out and move an audience. This would be a great reward, not just for the director,
but the performers as well. I love how in Bruce article he said this” I'm the artistic voice of the company”. He doesn’t only teach the art,
but also uses his artist voice to show his passion as well. This is when you
know they have it at heart.
Very well said. You are right, arts teachers of various disciplines are often different in that they often have experience first as a dancer or painter or writer or musician, rather than going to school specifically to become a teacher. Passion for the subject can really make a great teacher!
